Common Error

The brief

Common Error is a streetwear label built from the visual language nobody designs for beauty: warning labels, receipts, signage and technical diagrams.

Build an identity from found functional graphics and a storefront that sells in drops rather than from a permanent catalogue. Each release should feel like the only thing on the site while live, while the archive remains available without competing with it.

Common Error — the drop.

THE DROP

Four numbered drops, one in front. The current release takes the viewport and the archive collapses into a numbered index. The website sells one thing at a time because that is how the label trades.

Common Error — source material.

SOURCE MATERIAL

Every letterform and graphic gesture traces to something functional: a hazard label, thermal receipt, registration mark or road sign seen at speed. The rule was that nothing could merely imitate these sources; it had to inherit their logic.

Common Error — photography.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Garments are shot flat, lit hard and placed against the surfaces the graphics came from. The absence of models and styling turns the print itself into the subject and keeps it legible at small widths.

Common Error — buying in a drop.

BUYING IN A DROP

Checkout keeps the essential fields above the fold at 375 pixels. Stock updates without a reload, and unavailable sizes grey in place rather than disappearing, preserving the structure of the decision.
